NEW MEXICO SKEET SHOOTING ASSOCIATION

The governing body for registered skeet shooting across the Land of Enchantment — and a proud partner of High Desert Sportsmen Association.

Skeet Shooting in the Land of Enchantment

The New Mexico Skeet Shooting Association (NMSSA) is the state affiliate of the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA). NMSSA coordinates registered skeet activity across New Mexico, sanctions the State Championships, and selects the New Mexico State Skeet Team each year.

All New Mexico residents must be NMSSA members to shoot registered targets at NMSSA sanctioned events. Membership runs January 1 to December 31, with free memberships offered to junior and sub-junior shooters.

State Championship Rules

Hosting the State Shoot

Each NMSSA club in good standing in the State of New Mexico may submit a bid to host the State Shoot. Applications must state whether the shoot is open or closed. The State Board awards the site based on submitted bids.

Champion of Champions Event

The State Shoot includes a Champion of Champions Event. To be eligible, a shooter must have:

  • Won a single gun event (12ga, 20ga, 28ga, or .410ga) at an NMSSA sanctioned event during the previous year
  • OR been a reported HOA (High Over All) Champion of any NMSSA sanctioned event of 50 targets or more per gun and three guns or more during the same period

The previous year’s Champion of Champions winner is automatically eligible to defend the title.

State Team Selection

The New Mexico Skeet Shooting Team consists of:

  • The top 5 shooters
  • The high lady
  • The high junior (including sub-junior)
  • The most improved shooter of NMSSA

Selection is determined by the averages in the NSSA Annual, with a minimum target requirement for eligibility.

Membership Requirements

All New Mexico residents must be members of NMSSA before shooting registered targets at NMSSA sanctioned events in the state.

Membership year: January 1 through December 31.

Junior memberships: Free annual membership is provided for all sub-junior and junior shooters as determined by current NSSA age classifications.
